      The Wutach Valley Railway is part of the Lauchringen - Hintschingen railway line. The name comes from the fact that the line follows the Wutach river in the first third to the Weizen station. Because of the winding course of the middle section and especially the spiral tunnel in the Stockhalde, it is also known as the "Sauschwänzlebahn". In the northern section of the route, from the Blumberg - Zollhaus train station, it is also called the Aitrach Valley Railway after the Aitrach River.
      The line was built primarily for military use and opened in 1890. It is also known colloquially as the cannon train. Therefore, the gradients could not be greater than 10 ‰; that is, the route does not rise more than one meter over a length of 100 meters.
      To achieve this, the route was artificially extended to 25 kilometers. The air line is only 9.6 km. The artificial length extension is typical for mountain railways. It was reached with two side valley hairpin bends, a roundabout tunnel and a double loop. The Kreiskehrtunnel is the only structure of its kind in all of Germany.
      Passenger traffic was initially discontinued in sections from 1967 to 1976. On the middle section, Weizen - Blumberg-Zollhaus, the Sauschwänzlebahn has been operated as a museum railway since 1977.
