It is a municipality with an ancestral history, the Gorones Indians lived there, who disputed the territory with the Quimbayas and Pijaos, but their presence decreased after the arrival of the Spanish. Algeria is located at 1560 meters above sea level, it has an average climate of 20°, its economy is based mainly on livestock farming and the cultivation of coffee, bananas and sugar cane. The municipality is recognized for hosting the cleanest waters in the Cauca Valley, and its sources are strongly protected by the government's protection programs.
