The origins of Burglinster Castle date back to the 13th century, when the then lords of Linster, Dietrich von der Fentsch and Beatrice von Chiny, left their old moated castle in Altlinster to settle here. The first extension consisted of a residential tower, a ring wall and a Romanesque chapel. The north wing was added a little later. Three large families, the Lords of Linster, Orley and Metzenhausen, took turns as rulers of Linster over the centuries. The residential tower was replaced by a south wing after its destruction in the 15th century. In the 14th century the lower castle, Haus Waldeck, was built. The complex was continually enlarged over time and expanded and adapted after the destruction in the 16th and 17th centuries, but fell into disrepair after the French Revolution and was sold by the last noble owner, Georges d’Arnould et de Soleuvre, to a private consortium in 1836. In 1968, the state acquired the buildings in a dilapidated state. Since an exemplary renovation, which was completed in 1988, the castle complex has been one of the most authentic and best-preserved castles in the region. Guided tours are possible by prior arrangement (Tel. 78 78 78 – 1)
