Due to a landslide, some paths around the waterfall are closed (as of April 2018). However, this does not detract from the beauty of the waterfall and its surroundings. There are still enough places to get close to the waterfall and to be able to see it from all sides.

The shooting pool is a very idyllic place and offers a good opportunity for a break during a longer hike. From the village of Mullerthal you can reach the waterfall via a beautiful path on the Black Ernz. There is also a parking lot located above. During my visit, unfortunately, part of the path at the waterfall was closed due to a landslide (April 2018).

The famous bridge, which today is the symbol of the region, was built within four months only, between March 20 and July 27, 1879, by the stonemason Jean-Pierre Prommenschenkel from Christnach. At that time, the bridge was built with steam lime and sandstone and lasted until today. The wooden railing was added later and has been renewed several times over the years.
The bridge or the middle of the Black Ernz represents the municipal boundary between the municipalities Waldbillig and Consdorf.

The Schiessentümpel is a picturesque waterfall on the Black Ernz. The water shoots in three streams over a rock edge into a rock basin below, before continuing its course towards the village of Müllerthal.

When people talk about the Schiessentümpel these days, they are also talking about the bridge and the waterfall. The sandstone bridge was built in 1879 and although it does not fulfill any practical function in terms of mobility in Luxembourg like other large bridges, it has been the symbol of the Mullerthal Region - Luxembourg's Little Switzerland since 1879. Before 1879 the region was difficult to access, dangerous to humans and said to resemble a jungle and was referred to as the "land of wolves".
However, this changed in 1814 with the prominent visit of Joseph von Görres from Koblenz. Joseph von Görres was not only the director of school education for the province of Lower and Middle Rhine, to which Luxembourg also belonged at the time, but he was also a scientist for the newspaper "Rheinische Merkur", which was published in the same year. In addition, the Brussels journalist Victor Joly also wrote about Luxembourg in his travel book "Les Ardennes".
These two mentions and descriptions were the triggers that people from neighboring countries became aware of Luxembourg and were willing to visit the region. As a result, the Luxembourg state built a better road and train network. In 1873 there was a train station in Grundhof and in 1877 the first credit agreement was ready for a road construction between Grundhof and the village of Müllerthal. In 1881 the connection between the villages of Müllerthal and Breitler was completed. Thus, one could reach the village and the Schiessentümpel from both sides.
