The Valkenburg Municipal Cave is an old limestone quarry where marl was mined until around 1950. Whether on foot or by train. On both tours you travel through time: how people once began to crush marl, but also how the quarry served as a shelter for people in times of war!

In Valkenburg, you can take an electric train into the Gemeentegrot (Municipal Cave).
In about 30-45 minutes, you'll ride past old wall paintings, artwork, and bits of history, including a Cold War shelter.
It's always around 12 degrees Celsius, so bring a jacket! During the Christmas season, everything is beautifully lit and incredibly atmospheric.
