Gender Fountain/Knight's Fountain (1546) - Oppenheim 🚴‍♂️

The Gender Fountain (also known as the Knight's Fountain) is a listed fountain from the early modern period in the town of Oppenheim.
The Gender Fountain, whose name is derived from an inscription on the fountain structure and which is also listed as the "Knight's Fountain" in the monument registers, was built in the Renaissance style in 1546 and from then on served as a drinking water supply for the people of Oppenheim. As was common in the late Middle Ages (and the subsequent early modern period), it was designed as a draw well: Those responsible for fetching water had to pull up the lowered and water-filled buckets.
Another inscription on the fountain bears the year 1626, which suggests that the fountain was renovated or at least repaired at that time.
The fountain bears the coats of arms of the noble families Dalberg, Frankenstein, and Gemmingen, who resided nearby at the time of its construction. 🚴‍♂️
