The Rotterdam artist Andreas Schotel had many friendly contacts during his stay in Esbeek during the summer months. He was often found especially among farming families and captured them strikingly in his etchings and watercolors. This sculpture depicts the connection between the big city and the small village. Schotel came by train from Rotterdam to Tilburg, after which the steam tram took him to Esbeek. Hannes Verhoeven took the steam tram from that time and its impressive arrival at this location as a starting point for creating the connection between Esbeek and Rotterdam.
