The Alberto Saavedra Pérez Theater hosts recitals and music concerts, plays, ballet and opera. It was inaugurated in 1845 after eleven years of construction and is the oldest theater in South America. The Municipal Theater "Alberto Saavedra Pérez" 1 (also known as the Municipal Theater of La Paz) is the main theater of the city of La Paz and a stage for the performance of recitals and musical concerts, plays, ballet and opera, cultural shows.
Originally it was known as the National Theater, when it passed to the jurisdiction of the municipality of La Paz it received the designation Municipal and was later named in memory of the La Paz playwright Alberto Saavedra Pérez.
