The Sint-Leonardus Church in Zoutleeuw is a gem in many respects. High at the top of my wish list is an extensive visit to the inside because this beautiful Gothic church has been left virtually untouched over the years, making it an art museum with a number of unique pieces from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. But the outside is also impressive. Work on the Gothic church probably started around the middle of the thirteenth century. Also special is one of the towers, the St. Barbara's Tower or the belfry of the church, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List with other belfries from Belgium. The church also has the oldest serially cast carillon bells in the world.
