The largest of the quarries at Hilbersdorf but also the best secured but from below you get well ran. Even the collapsed hut is worth seeing in its own way.

On the Eichberg near Mengelsdorf (Reichenbach/Upper Lusatia), there are abandoned quarries consisting of biotite granite and pegmatite. Quarries are found everywhere, some of them now forming lakes; at least one quarry is still active.
In the small quarry on the Eichberg, rocks of the Lower Buntsandstein were mined, probably until the first half of the 20th century. Since the path leading downhill from the quarry toward Memleben is still recognizable, it is quite possible that this quarry primarily supplied the local residents with the necessary rock.
