Jakobskirche Weimar
The church is named after a station on the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela. A church had stood on the Jakobshügel hill named after it since 1168, but was demolished in 1712 because it was in disrepair. A single-nave baroque church was built on the same site in 1713, which became the court church after the fire at Weimar Castle in 1774. After being occupied by French troops, Jakobskirche served as a military hospital. It was later restored under the expert advice of Clemens Wenzeslaus Coudray until 1817.

On October 19, 1806, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Cristiane Vulpius were married in the sacristy of the church.

The Jakobskirchhof, located in Weimar's Jakobsviertel around the Jakobskirche, is the oldest surviving burial site in the residential city. From 1530 to 1818 it was the main cemetery in Weimar. It became the final resting place for Lucas Cranach, Johann C. A. Musäus, Friedrich Schiller, Christiane von Goethe and many more. a. (Source: Weimar-Lese)
