      Schillerstrasse is a street in the old town of Weimar. It runs from Frauentorstrasse to Theaterplatz, where it meets the Wittumspalais. It is a pedestrian promenade with the house where Schiller lived and a few cafés and shops.

      Weimar's city fortifications originally ran through this street. This street used to be the Esplanade. Friedrich Schiller's last home there, the Schillerhaus (Schillerstrasse 12), ultimately gave this street its name.

                      Today Schillerstrasse is one of the most important pedestrian promenades in downtown Weimar. The street (esplanade) was created when the city fortifications were dismantled in 1760-1765. The street is particularly famous for the Schillerhaus, where J. C. Friedrich Schiller lived from 1802-1805. It is also the house where Schiller died (May 9, 1805).
