Jiading used to be a separate town. In 1958 it was placed under the administration of Shanghai. In 1993 its designation changed to district.
The old town is famous for Zhouqiao Old Street, Fahua Tower (visible from afar), Confucius Temple, Bamboo Carving Museum.
There are few streets in the old town that make for a great stroll, but bikes are strictly off limits. This highlight marks the south entrance.
