Forstei Fountain, Radolfzell

One of the oldest fountains in the city

Radolfzell's fountains are an integral part of the city and create a pleasant atmosphere in various locations. Today, we're going to feature the so-called Forstei Fountain in our series. The fountain is one of the oldest in the city and was first mentioned in ancient documents in 1660. The beautifully shaped fountain, with its octagonal trough, centrally placed natural stone column, and two outlets made of ornate metal spigots, is one of the few fountains that didn't fall victim to the new spirit of progress in the second half of the 19th century. At that time, most of the medieval dike pipes were replaced by modern water pipe systems.

The area around the Forstei fountain has been given a facelift: To ensure the old chestnut trees there can be better supplied with nutrients from the subsoil in the future, the surface was unsealed. The perimeter of the plateau was also redesigned.
