The Haags Tower in Oberwesel is part of the city fortifications and was acquired and restored in 1865 by the painter Carl Haag. The tower has been owned by the Höhn family since 1997, who use it as a living and art space.
Gallery owner Barbara Höhn has been organizing exhibitions for over fifteen years. She is co-founder of DiDa Art e.V. and realized the Oberwesel sculpture park with twenty sculptures in cooperation with the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Opening times: Wednesdays and Saturdays 11 am-6pm and by appointment
January and February by appointment only

Admission: 3 euros, admission free for young people up to 16

The Red Tower forms the border between the southern suburbs and Kirchhausen towards the Rhine and thus connects two construction phases of the city fortifications.
At the Red Tower, the city wall bends at a right angle to the west towards the mountain side. On the Rhine side in a northerly direction is the smaller round tower, tower and house Schönburg. In the urban architecture of Oberwesel, the Red Tower is considered the counterpart to the Ochsenturm and - even if this is also a corner bastion - primarily has a representative function.
This round tower should refer to the power and importance of Oberwesel. The plastered round tower once had two functions: on the one hand, like the ox tower, it was supposed to be a representative object or landmark of the city and on the other hand, as a corner bastion, it was supposed to protect the city from attacks. The tower, the gate and the city wall formed a seamless defense unit. For defensive purposes, loopholes and wide slit windows were let in on all sides, which were expanded or completely redesigned as part of the renovation work.
