Jiading Gongbao Bridge Sacred Heart of Jesus Church was built in 1864. It was rebuilt in 1932 in a Chinese and Western style. During the Cultural Revolution in 1966, the church was destroyed and occupied by the Jiading County Government and turned into a canteen. The church was recovered in 1984 and reopened after restoration. It was expanded in 1991 and a bell tower was built. There are more than 3,000 members of the church, most of whom are elderly fishermen. There are more than 200 parishioners attending Sunday Mass, and more than 800 people attend Christmas Day. The current parish priest is Father Tian Haijun from Shanxi. On November 17, 2003, Sacred Heart Church was announced as a registered immovable cultural relic in Jiading District.
