This is perhaps the most panoramic tower of the hunger forts. From here, in fact, you have a splendid view that ranges from the Locarno area to the Riviera.

The fourth tower "Al Sass del Camósc" is built on a hillock with a magnificent view that goes from Locarno to the Riviera. A recently laid panoramic table provides geographical indications on the horizon visible from this point, so as to allow a better orientation to the wayfarer who is here for a moment. Even the elderly do not remember having seen it with the roof, the staircase and the inside gallery. However, we remember the uprights and the architrave, obtained from the Pian Grande and dragged there. In 1943 they were removed by a company of diggers together with the steps of the entrance. The "Fortini della Fame" – Hunger Fortresses or Hunger Towers – are historical monuments closely linked to the turbulent history of the 19th century. These cylindrical structures are the remaining remnants of a fortification system consisting of 36 towers. Five towers still stand today above Camorino.
This is tower number 4: "Al Sass del Camósc."

The Hungerburgen are cylindrical towers, which were built in 1853 and had a dual function: on the one hand they were part of the defense system against the Austrians, on the other hand they were considered a workplace for refugees who were under the command of Marshal Radetzky of Lombardy. The construction of the fortress secured a job for around 500 people for a good two years. Hence it became an important source of work and income in the area. Today the characteristic buildings are an ideal destination to see the Magadino plain from above.
