The three-nave Gothic hall church from 1294 was built in three phases. The fieldstone base of the tower dates from the earliest phase of construction.
In 1361 the construction of the high choir began and in 1430-1450 the third construction phase, the nave, was built.
1851-1854 took place under F.A. Stüler redesigned the interior.
The top of the tower burned down on November 27, 1916. Since then, a simple pitched roof forms the top of the tower.
The organ from 1831 comes from the organ building company Fr. Turley/Treuenbrietzen.
The Pietist Gottfried Arnold was superintendent here between 1707 and 1714. The theologian, historian and humanities scholar is regarded as a pioneer of the Enlightenment of the 18th century.
In 1913/14 and 1997-1999 the church was extensively renovated.
