Just around the corner, the Roeckl family opened a leather tannery (on the large city stream) and glove making factory in the third wave of expansion in the mid to late 19th century. The buildings were completely destroyed in the Second World War - apart from one outer wall.
The bowl fountain donated by the Röckel family across the street was preserved and still stands there today. He certainly contributed to the people of Munich calling the corner “Röcklschloss” at the time.
Production was moved to Romania at the end of the last century, but the administration is still based here.
Also at Roecklplatz is the - recommended - training center "Roeckls", a restaurant and social project for youth development. The aim is to enable young adults with starting difficulties to receive training in gadtronomy. Everyone benefits from this - the trainees who can then actually gain a foothold in the primary labor market - and the guests who can enjoy a dedicated and sometimes original cuisine.
