      All half-timbered buildings have a supporting wooden framework made up of vertical columns, horizontal beams and sloping struts. The compressive forces are transmitted through the wood. Free spaces are created between the wooden beams, which are referred to as compartments or trusses. The name of this construction method derives from them. The half-timbered structure is a centuries-old wooden frame construction. Precursors of this can already be found in buildings from prehistoric times. The first houses of this type in today's sense were built in the Harz region at the beginning of the 13th century. In the picturesque climatic health resort of Neustadt, half-timbered buildings can be found on every street.
