Since 1880, the synagogue Lübeck stands in the St.-Annen-Straße. During Kristallnacht 1938, the Jewish house of worship is destroyed inside, but the building itself is spared by the flames. The reason for this is the dense development in Lübeck's old town. The National Socialists transformed the synagogue from a Moorish-style building with a dome into a simple brick building and used it, among other things, as a gymnasium. The first worship service after the end of the Nazi era was celebrated by the remaining 250 Lübeck Jews on June 1, 1945. On September 1, the synagogue will be reopened.
