The care and protection of the turtle nests on Kalamaki beach in Zakynthos is carried out by several organizations and initiatives. One of the main organizations is Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece. They work together with the Mediterranean Marine Life Center and the Marine National Park Information Centers1. These groups are committed to protecting the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta), which lays its eggs on the beaches of Zakynthos.

The nests are often protected by special wooden scaffolding to keep them safe from damage, and there are strict rules in place to protect the nesting sites during the nesting season. Tourists and locals are encouraged to avoid the beaches where the turtles nest and not to touch the nests protected by wooden scaffolding. In addition, educational work is carried out to raise awareness of the needs of this threatened species and encourage support from the local community and visitors.
