The demolition of a small church gave rise to a new usable area: anyone who needed poultry in the 19th and 20th centuries, or who wanted to buy a deer for 20 centimes, went for the «Andrese» or «Bibbelimärt». Less well known: in addition to game and poultry, dogs were sold on the market. However, since this was an "illegal trade in dogs of very dubious origin" and the sellers often tried to sell their animals with lazy tricks, the government council decided in 1934 to discontinue the dog market.

Andreasplatz is home to the Monkey fountain since the 17th century. You pause for a while on your hike through Basel. Public toilets are also there.

There are all sorts of craft shops and cafes around the small square. Very worth seeing and worth a break.
