This first day of the Druk Path Trek starts with a car ride from Paro to the starting point. The tour this day is short, 4 km, 1.5 to 2 hours walk, 580m ascent from 2870m to 3550m. A good day to test how you experience the height and ascent. The tour is easy and takes you through forests that are mysterious because of the hanging Spanish moss and sometimes huge pine trees. The silence is sometimes broken by a flock of noisy birds. Jela Dzong with a basic camping site is the end point. The dzong has a beautiful temple with Buddha statues that attract many Bhutanese pilgrims. The view over the Paro valley is fantastic, with the snow-capped peaks of the High Himalayas in the background.
