Viborg Cathedral is a magnificent Romanesque church that stands as a central landmark in the city. While the current building is largely a 19th-century reconstruction, it is renowned for the incredible frescoes by artist Joakim Skovgaard that adorn its interior. These vibrant paintings tell the story of the Bible and are a truly stunning sight to behold. It's a powerful and historically significant place that is well worth a visit.

Viborg's Church of Our Lady is a masterpiece of Neo-Romanesque architecture.

It is no ordinary church – it is the magnificent cathedral of the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of Viborg and is considered an architectural gem in Denmark.

Originally built between 1120 and 1180, it was destroyed several times by fire (including in 1501) and was most recently rebuilt in the Neo-Romanesque style in 1876.

It was built as a cruciform church with two west towers, two east towers, a choir, side aisles, and a crypt.

It has an impressive granite structure and is the largest granite church in the world.

Colorful frescoes and murals adorn the interior and tell biblical stories.

Viborg Cathedral was built between 1120 and 1180 and has suffered three major fires. The first time was in 1501, the second time in 1567, and again in 1726. Due to poor renovations after the last fire, the cathedral was torn down and rebuilt in its original Romanesque style between 1863 and 1876. The original crypt beneath the choir dates back to 1120 and was preserved. The paintings by the artist Joakim Skovgaard date from 1901 to 1906.

Viborg Cathedral is open to visitors year-round. There is no access during church services.

Cathedral entrance: 10 DKK

Tower: Adults 10 DKK, children up to 14 years 5 DKK.
