The St. Mauritius Church is located south of the market in Zörbig. It was first mentioned in a papal document in 1202. At that time, the abbot of the monastery on Petersberg was the supervisory officer for the Zörbig parish.

There is architectural history about the Zörbiger St. Mauritius church is little known. The church building was built from rubble stones. In 1518 the church burned down completely in a major fire and stood empty for 19 years.

In 1539 Zörbig converted to Protestant teaching. In 1541 the church was completely finished again (in the late Gothic style). The Zörbig Altar, whose creator is unknown, was influenced by the South German Baroque. It is 6.50 m high and 2.80 m wide.

In 1881/1882 this altar was removed during a comprehensive church renovation. It should not disturb the visual impression of the new colorful glass windows. During the renovation in 1935/1936 it was put back in its original place.

The baptismal font, a valuable stonemason's work made of sandstone in the shape of an octagonal chalice from 1699, stands in front of the choir. The altar, baptismal font and pulpit were donations from Duke August of Saxony Mecklenburg. The carved early Gothic wooden cross hangs in the triumphal arch. The organ in the expanded housing of the previous organ from 1819 was rebuilt in 1929 in the local workshops of the Hoforgelanstalt by Wilhelm Rühlmann.

In the tower hall there is the heavily weathered gravestone of the Zörbig chronicler Elteste and a gravestone carved from stone from the Middle Ages. In the choir, to the left of the altar, there is the relief grave slab with the portrait of the Zörbig castle captain Georg Anger from 1522 and to the right there is a highly raised relief grave slab of a Mr. von Rauchfuß from 1584. On the front wall of the southern aisle is the stone baroque grave monument of Zörbiger Amtmannes Droll can be found. The painting on the vaults dates from the time of the renovation in 1881/1882.
