Large bazaar in Sheki with many local products, e.g. dried apricots, sweets, spices, but also fruit, vegetables, meat and cheese. A visit is very worthwhile!
The Taza Bazaar is Sheki’s biggest and best produce market. It is located in the new part of town, not far from the bus station. This market is humongous, with different marked undercover sections for spices, nuts, fish and meat, etc. Around the outside and spilling out into the surrounding streets are hundreds of stalls selling fruit and vegetables. A few of the products I took a special interest in were the bundles of vine leaves (destined to become tomorrow’s dolma), the jars of colourful pickles (preserving culture is HUGE in Azerbaijan), the wedges of cheese with saffron, and the great tubs of Azerbaijani tea leaves. Taza Bazaar is a popular place to shop for Sheki halva and there is an entire row dedicated solely to vendors peddling mammoth pans of it. There are different price points depending on the nuts used.
