In the restoration area Filsø are many different and also rare species of birds at home. At the large lake of the bird sanctuary / nature reserve there is a lot of nice place for a break.

With the restoration of Lake Filsø, West Jutland has regained one of its great natural areas after the lake had been drained for several generations and the lake bed had been used for agriculture.
After the Aage V. Jensen Nature Fund bought the land, the water was let back in in 2012, resulting in a record number of birds resting in and around the lake throughout the autumn. Geese, ducks, waders, sea eagles and ospreys are just some of the interesting birds that can be seen from the bird towers and lookout points around the lake.
The meadows, wetlands and heaths, together with the islands in the lake, create good conditions for breeding birds and are home to an interesting flora.
The grazing animals in the area ensure that no taller grasses and shrubs grow in the landscape, which would prevent many animal and plant species from maintaining their population.
