In 1869 Kodeń lost its municipal rights under the tsar's decree and was demoted to the status of a settlement. However, the most powerful blow came in 1875. The Church of St. Anna was turned into an Orthodox church, and the image of the Mother of God was removed from the altar and transported to Jasna Góra. In the free homeland, the heroic January insurgents were not forgotten. In 1935, at the Roman-Catholic cemetery in Kodeń, six insurgents who died for the freedom of the nation were given a tombstone. In 2009, a large granite monument was erected. Every year on All Souls' Day there is an Appeal of the Fallen, numerous candles are lit. On the commemorative plaque there are very eloquent words spoken by the dictator of the uprising, a national hero, the son of General Romuald Traugutt, which should be a signpost for today's and future generations: (...)
