Saints and astronauts. I recommend a walk along the way of the cross on the embankment surrounding Kalwaria Kodeńska in search of interesting and strange characters straight from outer space. These are background figures, probably (?) refer to Soviet cosmonauts, e.g. to Gagarin who was said to say after returning from space to earth "I looked and looked, but I did not see God anywhere". Some of the objects that appear in their hands refer to the hammer and sickle, a symbol of communism. The author of the Way of the Cross is Tadeusz Niewiadomski (1931-2006), a sculptor, Home Army soldier, sentenced at the age of 14 to a long-term hard prison for his activities against the UB (Security Office in the People's Republic of Poland). After years of imprisonment, he decided to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Despite passing the entrance exams, due to his previous "hostile" political activity
(against the authorities) he was not admitted to the university.
