Sheyenne National Grassland is comprised of over 70,000 acres of public land. It is known for its vast prairie and sand dune landscape that has been sculpted by wind and rain over millions of years.
The area provides a home and habitat for many sensitive species, such as Dakota skipper and greater prairie chickens.
A section of the North Country National Scenic Trail runs through Sheyenne National Grassland. Along the trail, on the eastern side of the park, hikers will encounter easily passable cattle gates and ample livestock watering spickets.
