Hankinson Hill Trail has three official trailheads around its loop. This trailhead at the southernmost edge of the trail has a small gravel parking lot to the south, a few feet from the entrance to the trail. This can be the ideal entrance to the trail if hikers do not wish to drive into the campground to park, which is on the northernmost edge of the loop.
The trail has very little tree cover as it travels through rolling hills and open prairie. A lot of the trail is sandy, so sturdy shoes are recommended.
