Famous Viennese castle where the Habsburgs used to reside. The magnificent castle and the extensive park are definitely worth a visit, but unfortunately the bike has to stay outside.

The palace has been located in Vienna's 13th district since 1892, which has been called Hietzing since then. The name Schönbrunn refers to a saying attributed to Emperor Matthias. He is said to have discovered an artesian spring here in 1619 while hunting and exclaimed with delight: "What a beautiful spring!"

Schönbrunn Palace is closely linked to the history of the Habsburg dynasty and is one of Vienna's most important sights. As the former summer residence of the Habsburgs, the palace shows the splendor and power of this ruling family and offers a variety of highlights. Empress Maria Theresa made Schönbrunn the center of court life and had it expanded into its current baroque form. Her influence is felt everywhere. Emperor Franz Joseph was born here, ruled for almost 68 years and died in Schönbrunn in 1916. Empress Elisabeth of Austria, the legendary empress, also spent time in the palace. Her life is brought to life in the exhibitions.

Bicycles are not allowed on the grounds, but can be locked to the stand. There is a cloakroom at the castle entrance (building) where bicycle bags can be deposited.

You will not actually be able to take your bike into the Schloss Schönbrunn park but its fabulous for walking & jogging - especially in the summer since the paths have a lot of shady trees.
