The artificially created Wienerbergteich has the largest stock of reeds in the south of Vienna. The reed beds offer perfect nesting opportunities for songbirds such as the great reed warbler, little bittern or reed bunting. The culms serve as perches, sleeping places, food reservoirs and provide cover. In winter, birds from other habitats also find food here, for example reed seeds or hibernating insects.
