The Roque Nublo was important as a sacred mountain in the time of the Canarios. They had built a cult site here where sacrifices were made to the sun god. The rock still has great significance today in folk songs such as the one about the Sombra del Nublo (Shadow of the Cloud Rock).

The first ascent of the rock was made on June 20, 1932 by the German engineers Ranschert, Langenbacher and Wolffschmitt via the Route Alemana (V+ A0) in the southeast. They had come to Gran Canaria to work on the expansion of the port of Las Palmas. The most difficult route, Vía del Alemán (Way of the German, 7b+), through the southeast flank is named after them.

The Roque Nublo (Spanish for "cloud rock") is a mountain on the Canary Island of Gran Canaria (Spain). Its summit structure of the same name, a striking basalt rock, reaches 1813 m and is thus one of the highest elevations in Gran Canaria. It is considered the island's landmark.
The plateau of the Roque Nublo is a popular hiking destination and is easily accessible via well-developed hiking trails. From the road that runs southeast past the mountain, which leads up to a height of 1581 m, the approach to the Roque Nublo takes about half an hour. From the summit plateau, the view extends as far as Teide on Tenerife.
The summit rock of the Roque Nublo is reserved for climbers. As the oldest climbing area on the island, it is accessible by over ten routes, and there are also around ten routes on the Roque rana. The difficulties range from 4a to 7b+ (French scale).
