    The fortress Monolithos is the southernmost Johanniter castle (built in 1476) on the island of Rhodes. On the way to the castle, shortly after the village of Monolithos, you have a very nice view of the approx. 240 meter high rock on which the remains of the castle stand. You can drive below the fortress. You then have to walk the last 300 meters to the plateau. You are immediately compensated with a view of the deep blue sea. The neighboring islands of Chalki and Alimia seem very close. On the rock there is a small, white chapel dedicated to St. Dedicated to Panteleimonos.

      Worth seeing, great all-round views and excellent photo opportunities. There is a tavern at the foot of the fortress. After climbing a few stairs you are already in the old castle, but be careful, the stone steps are very slippery. A great sight even from a distance.

              Monolithos (Greek Μονόλιθος (m. Sg.)) Is a small town in the district of Atavyros in the west of the Greek island and municipality of Rhodes. The name in Greek means something like "lonely rock". The place is known especially for its Johanniter fortress.
              The Byzantines built about 1.5 km southwest of today's place a feast, which was extended in 1467 by the Knights of St. John and restored by Pierre d'Aubusson from 1480 to 1489. Today, the castle, which incidentally was never taken, serves as a popular photo opportunity and vantage point. Within the castle walls is a chapel of St. Pantaleon.
