This area south of Ver-Assebroek is a set of low-lying moist meadows and hay meadows surrounded by pollard willows and poplars. If you want to take a longer walk, you can combine the Assebroekse meersen with the Steenbrugse bosjes via the signposted Meersen walking route of just under 7 kilometers. The Assebroekse Meersen (82 hectares) also border on valuable landscapes such as the Beverhoutsveld, the Loweiden and the woods and heath relics of Ryckevelde.
