It is thanks to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV (1795-1861) that a new spa resort was created after the discovery of a thermal brine spring near the Neusalzwerk saltworks by the mining councilor Carl von Oeynhausen. The garden architect Peter Joseph Lenné and the architects Friedrich August Stüler and Carl Ferdinand Busse were involved in the design of the spa. There is much to suggest that the king also had his own architectural designs realized there. Source: geschichtlicher-buechertisch.de/Neuheit/Friedrich-Wilhelm-IV-und-Bad-Oeynhausen.html
Frederick William IV, King of Prussia (1795-1861, King 1740-1861), gave Bad Oeynhausen his name by royal decree in 1848 (in honor of Carl Baron von Oeynhausen, a mining engineer in the Prussian civil service who had drilled the first mineral springs starting in 1831). Frederick William IV, the only Prussian king not to wage war, instead left his mark as the founder and patron of Bad Oeynhausen, among other things.
