The Transparent Factory is a Volkswagen AG presentation site on the former site of the municipal exhibition grounds on the north-western edge of the Great Garden. In the factory, which was officially opened on March 19, 2002, the final assembly of the luxury VW Phaeton was done by hand. In order to avoid increased traffic in this downtown location, the transport to and from the factory was carried out with the help of the CarGoTram, a goods tram financed by VW that ran between the Transparent Factory and the logistics center at Dresden-Friedrichstadt station. Since the production switch from VW to electric drives, it has been using this connection again since 2017.
