In a broader sense, the term Königsufer often also refers to the entire Neustadt Elbe bank. The Neustadt Elbe bank is the landscaped Elbe bank zone in Dresden between the Rosengarten and the Marienbrücke and is located in the Inner Neustadt, parts of which are in the government district. It is lined with a number of remarkable buildings and works of art.

The extensive lawns on the bank serve as a buffer zone during high water and give the Königsufer a very spacious appearance when the water level is normal. A walk there offers wonderful views of both the impressive buildings on the land side (Neustadt) and the old town backdrop on the other side of the Elbe. In many places you can get right up to the water's edge of the Elbe, the ground there consists largely of larger pebbles or earth.
