The Torre dei Francesi of the Castle of Brescia is, together with the other towers, among the structures of the fortress that immediately capture the attention.
Imposition and majesty are the main characteristics of the Torre dei Francesi.
The French tower was built around 1400.
Initially it was built under the Venetian dominion by the Venetians with the intention of strengthening the north-east wing of the castle.
The tower initially with a square plan, like all the other towers of the castle, was later modified to a circular plan with a thicker base.
The circular shape with a thicker base offers greater resistance against firearms. The tower was renamed "dei Francesi" in 1509, who rebuilt it in seven years, after the explosion of a gunpowder deposit destroyed it in many of its parts.
The structure consists of four levels, three above and one underground, each level was designed for the positioning of cannons and riflemen, in fact, cannons and riflemen are still visible today, an interesting detail is the hole present at each level which allowed communication between the various floors of the tower.
Renovated in the last century, today it offers all visitors an extraordinary panorama that can be admired from its top, where you can access a "panoramic terrace".
