    Designed by the architect Giovanbattista Lantana, the New Cathedral, built from 1604 on the remains of the ancient Basilica of San Pietro dei Domi, rises majestically in the center of the square.             The Duomo Nuovo, or more precisely the Summer Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, is the main church of Brescia, the mother church of the Brescia diocese. It is located in Piazza Paolo VI, formerly Piazza del Duomo. It was built between 1604 and 1825 on the site of the early Christian basilica of San Pietro de Dom from the 5th - 6th centuries.
