Parish church, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, nestled in the middle of a walled cemetery. The typical country church is a stylistically heterogeneous construction with a complex building history, with the west tower as the oldest core dating back to around 1300.
The Sint-Jan-de-Doperkerk was implanted in a curvature of the old Opperzelestraat (nowadays Osselstraat-Kasteelstraat), which departed from the Brussels-Merchtem highway and ran through Ossel, over Amelgem to Meise. However, the construction of the Brusselsesteenweg, which crosses Ossel, disrupted the local road pattern, physically separating the church from the more westerly rectory (1758). The church is surrounded by largely renovated village houses and is connected to the adjacent castle grounds via a lane on the east side.

The St. John the Baptist Church in Ossel is a parish church with a rich history. The church is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and is known for its complex architectural history with elements dating back to about the year 1300. It is a typical rural church that is stylistically heterogeneous, meaning that it combines different architectural styles.

The west tower of the church is probably the oldest part and dates from around 1300. The choir and naves were built in the 16th and early 17th centuries. An interesting detail is that the church was originally the 'mother church' for several surrounding parishes, including Brussegem, Meuzegem, Wolvertem, Rossem, Impde and Londerzeel.
