The Altfriedland monastery church is the former church of the Friedland Cistercian monastery in Altfriedland in the district of MOL. The early Gothic fieldstone church, which has been reshaped several times, is now used as a Protestant village church and is located in the north-east corner of the Märkische Schweiz nature park on the east bank of the Klostersee. The church dedicated to St. Mary was built together with the monastery between 1230 and 1271. In addition to the ruins of the refectory and the remains of a cloister, the nave is the only surviving building of the monastery, which was secularized in 1540. The beautiful Altfriedland Monastery Church is one of the oldest buildings in Märkische Schweiz (Markish Switzerland) and tells a story spanning almost 800 years. Originally built between 1230 and 1271 as part of a Cistercian monastery, it was rebuilt in 1734. The striking church tower was added in 1864. Today, the church serves as a Protestant village church and is an important cultural center of the town.

In addition to the church itself, the ruins of the refectory and the well-preserved 15th-century cloister are worth a look. These are historical relics of monastic life in bygone times.

Its location in the Märkische Schweiz nature reserve makes a visit particularly attractive: Situated directly on the Klostersee (Monastery Lake), the surrounding area offers idyllic views and invites you to take walks amidst a unique natural and cultural landscape.
