This mill with wooden undershot wheel was the oldest in Heusden, it was built in 1415 as an oil mill by Hendrik Gielis. From 1528 there are two mills: an oil mill and a grain mill. Around 1893, a steam engine was added to turn a pair of stones in case of insufficient water. Because the Mangelbeek was straightened in 1959 at the initiative of Count Albert de Theux de Meylandt, the mill could no longer be powered by water power and the mill was only operated electrically. In 1973 the last miller, Frans Vos, retired and the mill was closed. In 2005, the mill was purchased by private individuals who wanted to restore both the house and the mill. The interior, with two stone couples, is still largely present. Since this mill is one of the last Flemish mills that has retained its archaic wooden undershot wheel with eight spokes through the water axis, we hope for its salvation. The renovation of the house started in 2010, and hopefully the mill will also follow. @molenechos.org/molen.php?number=1216
