Samagaon is the last big village on the Manaslu Circuit Trek before you reach Larke La Pass. For mountaineers, the place with its impressive location at the foot of Manaslu is an important starting point for the ascent to the summit. Manaslu Base Camp is only half a day's walk away.
Furthermore, with its location at about 3,500 meters, Samagaon is an important stopover for trekkers, as it is a good base for several days of altitude adjustment/acclimatization with relatively comfortable lodges and tea houses. You can experience local village life and culture of the local people. In Samagaon, both trekkers and climbers can buy missing equipment and food to prepare for their ascent to Larke La Pass or Manaslu Peak.
During the acclimatization rest days, I recommend the following goals:
- Manaslu Base Camp at 4,400 meters
- Pung Gyen Gompa at the foot of Punggen Glacier with a direct view of Manaslu Peak
