The shipyard is fully equipped with machines and tools necessary for working with wooden ships. The shipyard forms a center for the wooden ship world in Middelfart Gl. Harbor with 6-8 wooden ships.

The shipyard is owned and operated by the Lillebæltværftet association as an active shipyard museum and dissemination center for local boatbuilding traditions and coastal culture.

As part of the preservation of the historic shipbuilding, the association has leased the right to operate the boat building at the shipyard, so that the company Middelfart Skibs- og Bådebyggeri has been using one of the shipyard's halls since 2012.

The Little Belt Shipyard now operates as a museum shipyard and maritime history center

for the northern part of the Little Belt, where the tradition of wooden shipbuilding

is still preserved and passed on.

Since 1855, dinghies and boats have been built at the small shipyard.

"Little Belt dinghies" were built here for porpoising, fishing, and pilotage.

The preferred construction technique was clinker construction.

Clinker boats are a special type of boat with a hull construction

in which the hull planks overlap.

The tradition of clinker construction dates back more than a thousand years

and is an important part of coastal culture and cultural heritage in Scandinavia.

This is why clinker construction has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the Little Belt Shipyard is one of the few places in the world where boats are still built according to this ancient tradition.
