A beautiful, steep path (up to the Kesselberg), which was newly constructed in 1953 and named after Dr. Friedrich Sprater - for his services to the Palatinate Forest Association. At the foot of this path stands Ritterstein No. 185 as a marker: komoot.com/de-de/highlight/1032265

"Friedrich Sprater (1884-1952), a native of Neustadt, was a scientist (prehistorian) from the Palatinate. [...] Sprater studied classical archaeology in Munich. He was a conservator and later (1920-1949) director of the Historical Museum of the Palatinate in Speyer. He was also a founding member of the Palatinate Society for the Advancement of Science. [...]
Sprater's role during the Nazi era is highly controversial and has been criticized [since the Nazi reappraisal in Speyer in 2022]. He was a member of the Nazi Party and also worked from its racial ideological perspective. In his doctorate (1907), he examined 'Race and Culture of the Late Stone Age in the Rhineland Palatinate'." After 1945, he had incriminating documents in the Historical Museum of the Palatinate destroyed."
