The NABU observation hut offers very nice views of the Kühren pond and shelter from the rain - also a good place for a rest.
The 79 hectare nature reserve "Kührener Teich und Umgebung", designated in 1994, is separated by the railway embankment, immediately south of the 207 hectare nature reserve "peninsulas and bays in Lanker See". The protected position ensures two nationwide important breeding, resting and food areas for endangered and rare bird species as well as for the rare red-bellied toad. The core of the nature reserve is the 40-hectare fish pond, which on average is only half a meter deep, and which drains into the Lanker See via a monk on the northern edge. North of the path running on a narrow ridge, a species-rich, humid lowland area extends to the railway embankment. The natural water balance is restored by damming. At times, large areas of water expand here. The area is part of the European ecological network "Natura 2000" (FFH area and bird protection area)
