The Aabenraa Railway was a branch line of the Vamdrup-Padborg Railway from Rødekro to Aabenraa.

The station building was listed as a monument in 1988 and is the oldest surviving station building in southern Jutland. In 1993 the building was converted into the art exhibition house "Banegården Kunst og Kultur".

The route from Rødekro to Aabenraa was opened on September 12, 1868 and was 6.7 km long. The Aabenraa railway was a branch line of the mainline Vamdrup-Padborg railway.

After the end of the war in 1864, the railway and operations were taken over by the Schleswigsche Eisenbahn Aktien-Gesellschaft, and in 1883 operations were transferred to the Prussian State Railways. When the area became Danish again in 1920, the line was taken over by the Danish State Railways (DSB) on 17 June 1920.

The route had the steepest gradient on a Danish railway line, only later surpassed by the Great Belt Tunnel. This made it one of the DSB lines on which steam operation existed for the longest time.
